The Knight needs a map of the area purchased from a travelling cartographer to even few a partial map, and needs a quill and ink in order to add on to that map. Breaking the mold, however, Hollow Knight also hides the map of each area until the appropriate equipment has been obtained. Most importantly, the game is expansive, and set in a world that urges the player onward and rewards exploration.Īs a Metroidvania, Hollow Knight has a large map that encourages the player to seek every corner, while also gating off areas until new abilities have been obtained.
